Every other day, a story comes out with a person who had no reason to kill,
He claims it was against his will; he 'had no choice'.
Whether hand-cuffed, on their chest or compliant with orders,
Yet another soul taken solely for the ‘crime’ of being black.
How can the colour of one’s skin be so powerful?
The mere sight of its being instils fear in so many
Not just the fear that makes one clench one’s purse,
Not just the fear that makes one cross to the other side of the road,
The fear that gets a man killed; his mere existence posed as a threat to the white man.
The spite for my people utterly pains me,
When oh when will my people be free?
Fear in the eyes of the minority has become a norm.
They slaughter us without reason, cause chaos in every form.
You’d think being human was good enough reason to have human rights.
Running is not safe if you’re black,
Staying home is not safe if you’re black,
Driving around is not safe if you’re black,
Living is not safe if you’re black.
Being black is not safe.
Rest in peace to soldiers who were victim to the fall
The ones who were forced to answer death’s call
And for those who live in fear, anger, pain
That this will all soon happen again
Stay strong.
